El Alcalde de Coral Gables, el Hon. Jim Cason, ex-Diplomático de los EEUU en La Habana, declaró el 19 de Noviembre como el “Día de Cuban Cultural Heritage” en la ciudad, en proclamación entregada a Marylin Borroto, Chairwoman de la Gala, durante La fiesta.



WITH GREAT SUCCESS the 5th Cuban Cultural Heritage “Gala Noche Azul 2016”, celebrating our 22nd Anniversary, took place at the Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables on the night of November 19th, 2016. With the attendance of over 250 guests and the theme of “Waiting for Snow in Havana” in honor of Dr. Carlos Eire, professor of History and Theology at Yale University. We awarded Dr.Eire with the PREMIO LIBERTAD, the highest honor conferred by this organization.
 
Only three previous personalities have been recipients of PREMIO LIBERTAD; Dr. Horacio Aguirre, Publisher of Diario Las Américas, Hon. Ileana Ros Lehtinen, Congresswoman, Sylvia Iriondo as President of M.A.R. Por Cuba. This award is bestowed on a person or organization that has consistently shown, throughout the years, a unique trajectory of performance toward the LIBERTY OF CUBA. Dr. Carlos Eire through his books and lectures has been a relentless fighter for FREEDOM and JUSTICE for CUBA.

In addition to the PREMIO LIBERTAD ceremony, the Office of the Mayor of The City of Coral Gables presented Cuban Cultural Heritage with a Proclamation naming November 19, 2016 “Herencia Cultural Cubana Day in Coral Gables”. The Proclamation, signed by Jim Cason, Mayor, was presented by Marylin Borroto, Chairwoman and Master of Ceremonies, to the Chairman, Luis Mejer Sarrá, the President, Julio Lago and the Vice President, Daniel Pedreira of the organization.
